11) INVESTIGATIONS ON THE PRUNING SEASON OF P. X EURAMERICANA I-214 PLANTATIONS

The subject of this research work is repair the felling injuries to
prevent infections, and to determine the most suitable time for pruning from the
point of view shots coming out of the pruning points.
The experiment was carried out in four years old poplar plantation and the prunings were made as six operations.
The applied pruning operations are as follows :
a- Pruning at the middle of December
b- begining of February
c- of May
d- middle of July
e- end of August
f- middle of October.
The pruning was made so as to leave the lower 1/3 to 2/5 free from branches depending up on the development of the plants and the amount of branches on them. The results of the experiment were analysed using the circumference measurements made in december 1968. According to the table of analysis there are significant differences among different pruning operations.
Results : The best results obtained with the pruning made at middle of july (d), and the result of the pruning made at the middle of October followed this (f), There are significant differences among other pruning operations. But from the standpoint of fungi infections the pruning in October should be avoided.
12) INVESTIGATIONS ON THE DETERMINATION OF PRUNING HEIGHT AT FIVE YEARS OLD P. NIGRA "56/52" PLANTATION WHICH ARE NEVER PRUNED BEFORE

Some poplar wood consuming industries require stems having as possible as less knots and they offer good prices. The measurements to produce Good in high quality for such industries will increase the profit of cultivator. This investigation is aimed for this purpose to determine the pruning height in a five years old plantation never pruned before. Experiment was begun on july of 1967 and the pruning operations were as follows a- The pruning which keeps 25 % of total tree height free of branches. b- The pruning which keeps 35 % of total height free of branches. c- The pruning which keeps half of the total height free of branches. Analysis have been based on measurement of circumferences which were carried out before pruning and also in the autumn of 1969. As it is shown in the table analysis, there are significant differences between pruning operations. Results : Pruning operation (a) showed, best result but statistically gave no significant difference according to operation (b). On the other hand, the trees dealt with pruning operation (a) have produced thicker branches. Therefore, the pruning operation (b) is accepted as it is giving the best result.
13) SURVEY ON THE EFFECTS OF IRRIGATION ITS DIFFICULTIES AND OVERSIGHT

Amount and period of irrigation is very important for quality of saplings in the nurseries. The experiment was carried out in Izmit poplar nursery by P.x euramericana I-214. Five different treatments of irrigation are as fallows : a- Weekly irrigation b- Irrigation per two weeks c- Irrigation per three weeks d- Irrigation Per four weeks 0- Treatment which represent to irrigation. Statisticaly the best height grogth is occured in the unit plots of (0) and (c) where no irrigation treatment and irrigation Per three weeks was applied, respectively. These two experimert plots, (0) and (c), gave better results than the others in the levels of (p = 0.05) and (p = 0.01). The plots (0) and (c) have been succeded by (b) and (a) according to their efficiency, respectively. The worst result was achieved by the treatment (d) which represent irrigation Per four weeks. The irrigation treatments have no influence on diametr growth but for the conditions of this experiment field only.
14) AN INVESTIGATIONS ON PLANTING SEASON OF P. RADIATA D. DON.

The objective of this study is to determine the most suitable planting time for P. radiata plantations in Marmara region. Experiment was established in Isiktepe / Izmit and used randomised complete block, 4 replications and 6 treatments, Seedlings were plated at times between 5 December 1969 and 15 March 1970. Results showed that the best planting season were February and December.
15) AN INVESTIGATION ON GROWTH AND SURVIVAL RATE OF TWO YEAR OLD "I-214" P. X EURAMERICANA CUTTINGS IN PLANTATIONS

Experiment was designed to investigate the differences of survival rate and growth of planting material from different diameter classes (I. greater than 4.5 cm, II. 3.5 cm-4.5 cm, III. 2.5 cm-3.5 cm, discard smaller than 2.5 cm) in Izmit with "I-214" P.x euramericana cuttings in 6 m X 6 m spacings. Three replication-randomised block experimental design was used. Result showed that best growth was obtained from good quality planting material.
16) INVESTIGATION ON THE METHODS OF EUCALYPTUS GROWING IN DROUGHT REGIONS

The result of the experiment established in Urfa Ceylanpύnar and surrounding conditions are as fallows:
1-Different types of soil preparation techniques has been tried and the
best result is achieved by 50-60 cm. depth, 60x60 cm. width planting spots on
double ploughing, perpendicular to each other,by double furrowed mouldboard
plough, continued double discing in the same way
as ploughing by gobl discs.
2-In four Eucalyptus species E.camaldulensis is best compared to the others.Before to establish Industrial Plantations , it is necessary to have the results of the Eucalyptus origin trials ,that has been established.
3-For Indutrial Plantations,it is necessary to establish some more new trials achieve the effective tending methods and spacing for the selected species.
17) A PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION ON LAND CLEARING AND CULTIVATION FOR FAST GROWING EXOTIC CONIFEROUS SPECIES

The experiment was established at Cenedag-Izmit in the spring of 1972 in plantation area to investigate the influences of land clearing and soil cultivation methods on the growth of P. pinaster and P. radiata. 4 replication and 5 treatments randomised block experimental design was used. The best growth was observed in the treatment of complete clearing of old coppice in the site and complete soil cultivation and weeding.
18) COMPARISION OF BARE-ROOTT P. RADIATA PLANTING STOCK WITH AND WITHOUT AGRICOL "ROOT DIP- COMPARISON OF P. PINASTER CONTANIER PLANTS AND OF BARE ROOT STOCK WITH AND WITHOUT" AGRICOL ROOT DIP

An experiment was designed to investigate the influence of "Agricol" on bare-rooted P. pinaster and P. radiata seedlinas in 1974 at Kerpe-Izmit. The seedlings of and P. pinaster. P. radiata seedlings which were treated with "Agricol" showed better growth. Containerized P. pinaster plants survived better than any other type of planting stocks.
19) INVESTIGATONS ON THE SUCCESS OF PELLETED SEEDS OF SOME CONIFEROUS SPP. IN NURSERY AND IN THE FIELD

Pelleted seeds of P. radiata, P. pinaster and Ps. Menziessii were some in nursery and field. The serination procuctivity of palleted seeds of P. radiata and P. pinaster were high thah non-pelleted seeds shile low in Ps. Menziesii in nursery. In field sowing experiments P. radiata and P. pinaster showed promising result.
20) EXTENDING OF THE PLANTING SEASON

To extend the planting season an experiment was set up at Kayalidag-Izmit on 4 species P. brutia, P. radiata, P. pinaster, Ps. Menziessii) with 4 replications, three treatments, randomised complete block design in 1976. Tubet seedlings, bare root seedlings and bare root seedlings treated with Agricol 1 % were compared. Tubed seedlings showed the best wroth and survival in spring plantings. Seedlings treated with Agricol followed the tubed seedlings.
